Cherry blossom front (Sakura Zensen)

On March 14 2020, bloom of cherry blossom in Tokyo was declared by the Japan Meteorological Agency, based on 5-6 blossoms confirmed on the standard tree of Someiyoshino variety. It is the earliest record in Tokyo since 1953 when official observation started. It is said 300-600 varieties are cultivated in Japan form early blooming (such as Atami-zakura start blooming January) to late variety (such as Kenrokuken-kikuzakura blooming in May ), but it is said the most popular variety “Someiyoshino” is sharing about 80% of planted cherry and grown in almost all Japan (except Okinawa and Hokkaido). Zenpukuji park and Inokashira park (15 03 2020) As I heard a news that cherry blossom (in this case Someiyoshino) starts blossom, I visit Zenpukuji park first . This park is famous of calm ponds which water from a natural spring named Osoinoi (slow well). In the park many neighbors visit for relaxing. In the park, kanhizakura (Taiwan cherry) blooms with eye-catching strong pink flowers. And a few flowers of Someiyochino variety has been opened already. Inokashira park, before cherry blossom parties

Inokashira park (08 03 2020) I visit Inokashira park for checking cherry blossom, since it is expected a main cherry variety “Someiyoshino” will be blooming in a week or 10 days. However, as drizzling and cold, there are few visitors in the park. White magnolia and Kobushi magnolia have already started blooming. Taiwan cherry, early blooming pinkish cherry, also blooming. But, Buds of Someiyoshino look still hard and need more time before blooming. Finally, I find a few flowers just start opening. And on the ground, wild violet is also start flowering. Next week! Musashi-Kyuryo Park, Feel Spring breeze

Musashi-Kyuryo National Government Park (01 03 2020) Through a main gate to enter the park On the ground, many spring ephemerals welcome  me in gentle spring sun shine. Also many pretty flowers are blooming On the tree, early blooming cherry variety, “Kawadzu zakura” is almost full blossom. Yanaka, Tennoji and Yuyake-dandan

Yanaka  (29 02 2020) At an edge of Yanaka cemetery, Tennoji is located. This temple is famous of sitting Amithaba Buddha statue. In the premises, it used to have a five stories pagoda, but it was burned put in 1957 It was also famous as Tennouji lottery in Edo period, but currently very tranquil temple. Yushima Tenjin Japanese apricot festival

Yushima Tenjin (29 02 2020) Yushima tenjin (tenmangu) is famous of Japanese apricot Every year, this shrine hosts “Japanese apricot festival” from February to Early March. This year is warmer than usual year, and now flower has almost near end. There are “Tenjin” or “Tenmongu” shrine in some major city, like Fukuoka, Kyoto, Osaka and Tokyo.    Tenjin shrine enshrine Sugawara Michizane, famous scholar in Heian period. Many students who want pass examine come to pray for success in early spring. Worshipers also stroke a statue of  cattle for expecting to heal bad parts of themselves.
